What is Natural Birth Works?

Natural Birth Works was founded by Louise Langham, a doula living in rural West Norfolk.

Louise is both a fully qualified and certified doula. She is also registered with Doula UK.  A mother of five children (two born in hospital and three at home) Louise moved to Norfolk from central London in 2001.

Her first baby Alexander, was in a footling breech presentation at term, but Louise delivered her 9lb 12 oz boy naturally.  Louise has considered all her other births to be very straightforward after that bit of negotiation!

She now lives on an organic smallholding with her family, where they keep a variety of livestock, including goats for milk and cheese and grow fruit and vegetables. Louise and her family are all vegetarians.

Louise is studying for a Diploma in Antenatal Education with the University of Bedfordshire and will be teaching for the National Childbirth Trust in 2008. She attends numerous birth related study days and workshops to broaden her understanding of her favorite subject!

She is a member of the local NHS Maternity Services Liaison Committee and has excellent working relationships with maternity health professionals in the local area.

"I believe that every women and her partner have the right to a great birth experience, whether that is at home or in hospital. I see so many women start their journey to birth full of optimism, only to finish feeling disappointed with the experience. This makes me so sad, as these women have beautiful babies, but still feel they have somehow been 'cheated' years later.

I became a doula because I want to help enable women and their partners, become empowered and strong in birth. To look back on the experience and feel proud of what they have achieved and the decisions they have taken. I feel that I can make a difference"
